Really fantastic late-period (mostly) live album from Townes Van Zandt, one of his very best in my opinion. Apparently this was recorded at many different venues during his mid-'90s tours of Europe. The songs are dark and haunting, and it's not exactly a 'happy' album, but it makes for incredible listening/5(10).

When considering the catalog of the late, great Townes Van Zandt, The Highway Kind is a dicey matter. All but three of the tracks are cut live, but these selections represent a weathered and weakened man. His picking isn't quite so fleet; his phrasing is fleeting/5(10).
